4 Ways to Maximize Your Learning

...when there's this much happening?

There's a lot happening both officially and unofficially at Family Reunion this year. How do you actually walk away smarter instead of exhausted?

Dual Encoding

It's different than "visual learning". The theory is that you process visual and verbal information through different channels in your brain. When you use both, you can recall it in either context.

How to do it? Draw your own diagram while explaining it out loud to someone else.

...have you ever wondered why we always see a blank flipchart on stage? [Academic Research]

The "Why" Method

Instead of simply reading mike's notes, you ask yourself "Why is this true?" for every part of the concept or model.

How to do it? If you're learning about a new model, don't just memorize the words. Ask: "Why does the number of appointments matter?" and "Why does knowing how many of those convert to new business matter?"
...it's how toddlers learn. don't worry, it's OK to be new, and this is the trick to get up to speed fast. [Academic Research]

Metaphorical Anchoring

New concepts with

How to do it? The Feynman Technique. Explain the new concept as though you were explaining it to a child, without using industry jargon.
...and now you know why I include all these pop culture or sports references when I teach. [Academic Research]

Spaced Retrieval

Trying to cram for an exam is not an effective learning method. Family Reunion can be overwhelming, and you can feel like you missed everything. The research shows that learning new ideas and abstract concepts require Neural Consolidation. It takes time for your brain to make these connections. That's why you went to school everyday. That's why Onward BOLD is 6 sessions, and not one day.

How to do it? Use the 1-3-5 method. Review and rewrite your top ahas 1 day after you get home, then 3 days later, then 5 days after that.
...see? anchoring spaced retrieval to the 1-3-5! [Academic Research]

So here's to your learning and applying it to better your life and your business. Cheers!

love, mike

Pack With Intention 06.26.2026 | Full List of FR 26 Session Notes Hey Reader, On June 11th, we hosted an MCA and MCTT Mastermind. It was a massive success. We sold out enough tickets to force a venue change, in a city we've never held an event in, secured two incredible keynote speakers for the day, and pulled off an event neither region had ever seen in history. But here is the secret: that event was not a success because of what happened on June 11th. It was a success because of the months...

Was it a week? a month? or even a year? Or a season when you feel like the things are happening around you and you're not in the driver's seat? When you feel that drift, you can use this framework to quickly pause, reflect, and choose exactly where you want to go from this point forward. I stumbled...

The Power of "Yet" 05.08.2026 | Full List of FR 26 Session Notes Hey Reader, Fear is sneaky. It doesn't always show up as a full panic. Sometimes it's a slight hesitation, or you react to a big idea with "not right now". It's not just you. Looking back at my notes on CEO Summit, Jenny Wood quoted a stat from Harvard.65% of Adults fail to take action on their big ideas or their business goals because they hold a fear of judgement by others. You likely feel this in that one critical activity...
